Only three things are certain in life: Death, taxes, and a few days each month when you need to vacuum but just don’t have time. Whether you detest the chore or hope to make your home upkeep a bit breezier, a robot vacuum is a lifesaver.

Robot vacuums under $200

Our pick: Shark Matrix

$199 at Walmart (save $100.99)

Why we like it

Now that Prime Day has passed, the robot vacuum deal torch has seemingly been passed from Amazon-owned iRobot to Shark. For a solid cheap Shark option, skip the outdated $129 Shark ION and opt for the Matrix instead. For less than $200, you’re securing LiDAR-powered smart home mapping and virtual boundaries, plus Matrix technology, which attacks debris from multiple angles in a crosshatch pattern to grab anything that was missed on the original pass.

Shark itself claims that the Matrix dishes out 50% more suction power than the Roomba i3 — and when the Roomba i3 costs $100 more even on sale, we’d understand if that’s an experiment you’re willing to test.

  • Spot cleans in a thorough grid pattern

  • 120-minute battery life

  • Schedule cleanings in the app

Robot vacuums under $500

Why we like it

Shark released several iterations of its flagship robot vacuum in 2023. This chic black and silver RV2310AE model is on sale at Amazon for less than $300 — a 40% price cut and a record-low price (according to camelcamelcamel) by far. Home mapping and virtual boundaries guided by 360-degree LiDAR are present here, plus Shark’s newest claim to fame: its Matrix cleaning technique that vacuums in a crosshatch pattern to grab any debris missed from the first angle.

  • HEPA filter

  • 120-minute battery life

  • XL self-emptying dock holds at least 45 days’ worth of debris

More robot vacuums on sale for under $500

  • Roborock Q5$279.99 $429.99 (save $150 with on-page coupon)

  • Roborock Q5+$449.99 $699.99 (save $250 with on-page coupon)

Robot vacuums under $800

Our pick: iRobot Roomba s9+

$599.99 at iRobot (save $400)

Why we like it

The s9+ hasn’t been the latest or greatest Roomba since iRobot started rolling out its j Series robot vacs in 2021. But it should still be a serious contender if you have pets or lots of thick carpeting in your home — especially when on sale for $599.99, which is just $100 away from the $499.99 it hit during Prime Big Deal Days. For reference, the only Roombas with stronger suction power than the s9+ are the j9+ and Combo j9+, which go for $899.99 and $1,399.99, respectively.

  • 40 times the suction power of 600 Series Roombas (the j7+ offers 10 times the suction)

  • 120-minute battery life

  • Self-emptying dock holds at least two months’ worth of debris

Robot vacuum and mop hybrids

Our pick: Roborock Q7 Max+

$499.99 at Amazon (save $370)

Why we like it

One of Roborock’s 2022 vacuum releases — and potentially the best value of that bunch — is just shy of 50% off. Of the Q Series, the mid-range Q7+ is the cheapest robovac that self-empties and mops. It vacuums with more-than-decent suction and simultaneously mops, lifting the pad when carpet is detected.

  • No-go and no-mop zones can be designated in the app

  • 180-minute battery life

  • Self-emptying dock holds at least seven weeks’ worth of debris

‘Colin from Accounts’ review: A messy, funny as hell rom-com

Posted on:

The worst meet-cute of all time, now on Paramount+. “Colin from Accounts” is an Australian romantic comedy series created and written by husband-and-wife team Patrick Brammall and Harriet Dyer, who star as the leading roles Gordon and Ashley.
Gordon (PATRICK BRAMMALL), Ashley (HARRIET DYER) lie on a sofa next to a dog named Colin.

You’d be forgiven for assuming that Colin from Accounts, an Australian comedy series, is about a) a man named Colin and b) someone who works in accounts. Which — no offence to anyone named Colin, or anyone working in accounts — doesn’t sound like the most riveting premise for a TV programme.

Thankfully, none of those assumptions are in any way based in reality.

Colin from Accounts is the story of two single strangers brought together by an accident. The show is created and written by husband-and-wife team Patrick Brammall and Harriet Dyer, who both star as the show’s main protagonists, Gordon and Ashley.

Episode one begins with what can only be described as the worst meet cute in human (and dog) history. Medical student Ashley is lying in bed eating crisps and texting her ex, when she realises she’s late for a training session at work. She chaotically heads out the door on foot, glugging a swig of Tequila for the road. Meanwhile, brewery owner Gordon, wakes up with last night’s porn still open on his laptop, proceeds to workout and then drive to work. At the very same time, a postman leaves a gate ajar, prompting a dog to escape and make a dash for it on the open road.

When Ashley haplessly steps off the kerb, Gordon (who’s nicknamed Flash) swerves and comes to an abrupt halt. As Ashley crosses the road, she beams at Gordon, who smiles back. They’re having a moment. Ashley then pulls down her top on one side, revealing her boob for a split second to a mesmerised Gordon. But then… disaster strikes.

A distracted, flustered Gordon gets beeped at by a car behind and promptly takes his foot off the brake. The next words out of his mouth: “Oh shit shit shit shit…”

Gordon accidentally ran over the poor little runaway dog. Don’t worry: the doggo survives. But, Ashley and Gordon are facing a A$12,000 vet bill. Who’s to blame? And who should pay up?

Yvette the vet, Gordon, and Ashley stand over an injured dog.

Suddenly, these three souls are brought together in the most unexpected circumstances, bringing a string of highs, lows, and complete an utter chaos.

With no idea who the four-legged friend belongs to, Gordon and Ashley are thrust into the role of stand-in dog parents — a role neither of them is equipped to take on.

Without saying too much, that momentary flirtation that turned into disaster isn’t brushed under the carpet. It was just the beginning.

Colin from Accounts brings together the essential ingredients needed for a satisfying romantic comedy. First of all, you’ve got the signature acerbic Australian wit. Then you’ve got some serious will-they-won’t-they tension. You’ve got a couple of exes thrown in for good measure, just to add to the suspense. Plus, you’ve got an adorable dog that the characters can’t help but love.

Ashley stands surrounded by her possessions with the sign "garage sale" as her landlord tries to sell her stuff.

Ashley isn’t exactly having a great time.

Ashley is a far cry from the “manic pixie dream girl” and “cool girl” stereotypes that litter a lot of romantic comedies, and not for the better. Ashley feels like an honest representation of someone who’s having a bit of a tough time and coming up against constant hurdles: Her landlord selling all her possessions without her consent; her toxic mother showing up unannounced at the worst possible times; her ex-boyfriend and current colleague being an all-round prick to her as she nurses a bruised heart. Gordon is also having a bit of a shit time, going through nerve-wracking checkups after undergoing treatment for cancer. The writing is funny as hell — even in the darkest of moments.

Ashley and Gordon have glimmering on-screen chemistry, which is just as well because they happen to be husband and wife in real life.

What I loved the most about Colin from Accounts was that it avoids saccharine lovey-dovey cringe dialogue. The show doesn’t rove into corny territory, as many rom-coms tend to. It’s honest and messy and complicated, as love stories so often are.

How to watch: Colin from Accounts is begins streaming on Paramount+ Nov. 9.

UPDATE: Oct. 31, 2023, 10:27 a.m. EDT Colin from Accounts was originally reviewed out of its BBC premiere. The review has been republished to toast its U.S. debut on streaming.

iPhone 16: Release date, price, specs, features, and more

Posted on:

iPhone 16 rumors are heating up. Let’s dive into all the leaks for the next-generation flagship line.
iPhone 15

The iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro rumors are flooding in – and it’s only been a few weeks since Apple unveiled the iPhone 15. The next-gen phones are expected to hit store shelves in September 2024, but we’re already hearing whispers about a phone that we won’t see until next year.

Although it’s early days, we’re already hearing whispers about a RAM boost for the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus models. The iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max, on the other hand, are reportedly getting some striking upgrades to the cameras that may dazzle the masses. Here’s a compilation of everything we know so far about next year’s iPhone 16 line.

iPhone 16 release date

The iPhone 16 release date is expected to be September of next year. After Apple has its whole shebang of an event showcasing the next-generation handsets, the iPhones typically ship about a week or two later.

In the past, Apple has deviated from this cadence due to reported production hindrances (e.g., supply chain issues). For example, the iPhone 12 and the iPhone 14 Plus shipped in October, but typically, get unveiled some time during the first half of September every year.

iPhone 16 design

Let’s dive into arguably the most important aspect of the iPhone’s design: the screen. There haven’t been any significant changes to the display sizes since the iPhone 12, but according to reliable leaker Unknownz21, the upper-tier iPhone 16 models are going to be a little bit more unwieldy in your hands.

Display

The iPhone 16 Pro will reportedly have a 6.3-inch display while the iPhone 16 Pro Max will pack a 6.9-inch panel. You may be wondering, “What about the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus? Will they get a screen size bump, too?” The answer is likely no. The lower-tier models will reportedly have the same display sizes as their predecessors.

iPhone 15 screen sizes

  • iPhone 15 – 6.1 inches

  • iPhone 15 Plus – 6.7 inches

  • iPhone 15 Pro – 6.1 inches

  • iPhone 15 Pro Max – 6.7 inches

iPhone 16 screen sizes (rumored)

  • iPhone 16 – 6.1 inches

  • iPhone 16 Plus – 6.7 inches

  • iPhone 16 Pro – 6.3 inches

  • iPhone 16 Pro Max – 6.9 inches

Ross Young, a well-known display analyst and Apple leaker, was the first to claim that the iPhone 16 Pro models will have larger screens.

However, he offered slightly different numbers: 6.2 inches and 6.8 inches. What could be the reason behind the discrepancy? According to MacRumors, it’s “likely due to the difference between actual display area and viewable display area.”

Solid-state buttons

Apple reportedly planned on introducing solid-state buttons with the iPhone 15 Pro models, but instead, we got a customizable Action Button. For the uninitiated, solid-state buttons aren’t buttons per se – they’re panels that feature haptic feedback sensations that simulate real button presses (Think of the iPhone SE series’ Home button). On the plus side, the solid-state buttons aren’t totally out of the picture. According to respected Apple leaker and analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, Apple is working on debuting solid-state buttons on the iPhone 16 Pro models instead.

Kuo added that these solid-state buttons will add two additional Taptic Engines, which will help fire off tangible feedback to users. (If this is true, the number of Taptic Engines in the iPhone 16 will increase to three — up from one.)

According to a tip from Weibo (via MacRumors), the Action Button on the iPhone 16 Pro will be a solid-state button and sit flush against the chassis. To make room for this change, Apple will reportedly move the mmWave antenna to the left of the iPhone 16 Pro as opposed to the right. This Weibo tip comes from a leaker with the moniker “Instant Digital,” a bean spiller that reportedly has an accurate track record, according to MacRumors.

iPhone 16 cameras

Apple debuted a new zoom lens with a “tetra-prism” design on the iPhone 15 Pro Max, which simply means that engineers found a way to “fold” the shooter so that it still has telephoto capabilities without taking up too much space. This new camera increases the Pro Max’s optical zoom from 3x to 5x.

iPhone 15 Pro

Credit: Apple

However, according to Digital Chat Station (DCS), a bean-spiller on the Chinese social media site Weibo, both the iPhone 16 Pro and the iPhone 16 Pro Max will get the new tetra-prism telephoto camera.

According to Jeff Pu, a tech analyst from Haitong International Securities (a Hong Kong investment firm), the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max models will also feature a 48-megapixel ultrawide camera with better light gathering. As such, camera performance in dimmer environments should improve. As it stands now, the iPhone 15 Pro models have a 12MP ultrawide camera. The ultrawide camera is perfect for taking landscape photos, allowing you to capture more scenery. However, compared to the main camera, the ultrawide lens tends to deliver a slight drop in crispness and sharpness. If this rumor is true, the new 48-megapixel ultrawide camera may ameliorate this minor foible.

Finally, Ming-Chi Kuo claims that Apple will upgrade the rear cameras on the iPhone 16 Pro models, introducing a stacked design. What will a stacked design do? According to Apple Insider, it increases light capture and provides wider dynamic range, so Night Mode should get a sweet boost.

iPhone 16 specs

The iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max are equipped with 8GB of RAM while the lower-tier models, the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro Max, are stuck with their predecessors’ 6GB of RAM. If that bums you out, don’t worry. According to Pu, the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus are expected to join the 8GB of RAM bandwagon, too.

iPhone 15 colorways

iPhone 15 lineup
Credit: Apple

As for the chip, you may not be happy to read this, but Pu added that the A17 Pro’s successor will reportedly be less efficient. In other words, the iPhone 16 models equipped with this chip may take a battery life hit. This is because the next-generation chip will offer tremendous performance gains at the expense of power efficiency. We certainly hope this rumor isn’t true, but time will tell.

The iPhone 16 Pro models will also reportedly support Wi-Fi 7 (current models support WiFi 6E). Wi-Fi 7 should offer zippy transfer speeds that exceed 40 Gbps, quadrupling what WiFi 6E can do.

According to Pu (via 9to5Mac), the iPhone 16 Pro will come with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X75 modem, which can reach a 5G download rate of up to 7.5 Gbps.

We’ll periodically update this rumor hub as new iPhone 16 leaks trickle in, so be sure to bookmark this page.

UPDATE: Nov. 2, 2023, 3:00 a.m. EDT This post has been updated with the best early Black Friday vacuum deals including self-emptying robot vacuums, hybrid robot vacuums, and cordless vacuums from Dyson, Shark, Eufy, and more.

Vacuums are inarguably one of the four horsemen of the apocalypse Black Friday. But while Black Friday is one of the best times of year to buy a vacuum, you don’t have to wait until the few days preceding Black Friday to find a good deal on a vacuum. That’s because retailers like Walmart, Best Buy, and Target remind us every year that Black Friday season is actually just the entire month of November (or earlier).

Whether you’ve been drooling over a Dyson all year or are looking to offset the act of vacuuming completely by opting for a robot vacuum, there’s probably an early Black Friday deal for that. We’re tracking them all below by category: shop self-emptying robot vacuums, hybrid robot vacuums, and cordless vacuums, in order of least to most expensive under each umbrella.

The V15 Detect is the beastlier version of our favorite Dyson value vacuum, the V12 Detect Slim. “Detect” in the name signifies the cleaning head with Dyson’s iconic green laser that points out dust you wouldn’t have been able to see otherwise, which is then sent through a full HEPA filtration system. Compared to the V12, the V15 Detect has a heavier body with a larger dustbin and 240 Air Watts of suction power versus the V12’s 150.

The sub-$600 sale price on the V15 Detect looks like even more of a steal alongside the $949.99 price tag on Dyson’s newest drop, the V15s Detect Submarine. Just released in September, the Submarine is Dyson’s very first all-in-one cordless vacuum and mop — but basically, it’s the V15 Detect on sale here with the option to swap in a wet roller head. If you’re feeling solid about your Swiffer right now, opting for the non-mop V15 Detect saves you about $400.

Google Chrome on iPhone now lets you move the address bar

Posted on:

Google Chrome users can now move the address bar to the bottom, but only iPhone users can take advantage of this new feature.
Google Chrome moves address bar

Google added a new feature to Chrome that is reminiscent of Safari’s current design. You can now move the address bar to the bottom of the screen.

This means you no longer have to stretch your thumbs to reach the top of your phone in a way that interrupts your typing flow. Sorry, Android users — this feature is only available to iPhone users at this time.

Google Chrome address bar move feature

Why move the address bar to the bottom?

Phones are gigantic these days. Hell, the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra and the iPhone 15 Pro Max have nearly seven-inch displays — they’re practically tablets.

As such, the top of the screen is becoming harder for our thumbs to reach. So Google is allowing users to move the address bar to a more convenient position.

“We know people prefer different address bar positions depending on the size of their hands and devices, and we took those preferences into account when building this highly requested feature,” said Nick Kim Sexton, Google product manager for Chrome.

If you prefer the address bar on top, don’t worry: You can simply leave it in its default position.

How to move the address bar to the bottom

To move the address bar to the bottom, you must press and hold it. Next, select the “Move address bar to bottom” option. That’s it!

You can also go to Settings, tap on “Address bar,” and choose your preferred position.

Best headphones for iPhone in 2023 (UK)

Posted on:

Find the perfect partner for your iPhone with this selection of top headphones from brands like Apple and Sony.
Apple iPhone and AirBuds

Listen closely: your whole life is packed inside your phone. And if listening to music — not to mention podcasts and audiobooks — is one of life’s true pleasures, you need a good set of headphones or earbuds to connect to your phone.

That’s especially true for iPhone users. As dedicated Apple fans will know, the Apple iOS is a uniquely designed system, built for syncing Apple products together. That means only certain headphones will do (though the best ones aren’t always Apple-produced, by the way). And the ones that come bundled with your iPhone just don’t sound as good as a dedicated set. They also leak sound like crazy.

If you’re serious about your sounds — and you should be — you need a pair that both suit the capabilities of your iPhone and your lifestyle. It’s important to know what you’re looking for, so we’ve gone ahead and done the research for you.

Do you need wireless headphones for your iPhone?

To put it simply, yes. If you have an iPhone, it’s probably time to go wireless. You have to go back several generations to find an iPhone that has a regular 3.5mm audio jack input. Apple has insisted on equipping its phones with a Lightning port for several years now. Apple headphones also use Lightning connections so they can plug straight into your phone. And if you have a pair of wired non-Apple headphones, Apple also sells an adaptor which connects a regular audio jack to the Lightning connection. But these adaptors are unreliable and break all-too easily. The best option is to connect your iPhone to the headphones. It’s much easier and means fewer cables.

What is true wireless?

True wireless — or “truly” wireless as it’s sometimes called — refers to headphones that have no cord connected to your phone or device. True wireless headphones can use different types of wireless technology to transmit the sound into your ears. The most common form is Bluetooth. Wireless sound quality can be affected by factors such as distance and obstructions between your headphones and device, but also the codec software that your headphones support. Codecs are algorithms that encode and decode digital audio signals. Look out for headphones with low latency that support Qaulcomm’s aptX codecs, which are usually rated as the best codecs — particularly for streaming video on your phone and ensuring the picture and audio stay in sync.

Are AirPods the best headphones for the iPhone?

Yes and no. AirPods are great — especially AirPods Pro and AirPods Pro Max (as you’ll see below) — but they’re also expensive. They’re definitely a good one-stop solution as they’re so convenient to set up with your iPhone and they fit the Apple aesthetic perfectly. However, if you’re keen to search around and spend a little longer setting things up (or spend a little less), there are other good options out there.

Should you buy the cheapest pair of headphones?

You can spend a few pounds on the cheapest pair of headphones, but you might as well just use the buds that come free with your iPhone. Going cheap is a false economy and you’ll sacrifice quality and function. If you regularly listen to music, it’s worth investing a little more. The sound quality is going to be much better.

What is noise cancellation?

Noise cancellation blocks out ambient noise, allowing you to fully immerse yourself in your music. It’s usually a mark of the best, most advanced headphones.

There are two kinds of noise cancellation: Passive and active noise cancellation. Passive noise cancellation is achieved by the design and build of the headphones, which physically block out noise by having oversized ear cups that create a seal. Active noise cancellation (ANC) uses a system of small microphones that pick up incoming sounds and create anti-noise sound waves to cancel them out. Also, look out for advanced ANC modes such as “transparency mode”. This allows a certain level of ambient noise to seep in, such as other people’s voices. It’s handy for listening out for train platform announcements or having conversations with pals and colleagues.

What are the best headphones for the iPhone?

Think about the main reasons that you need new headphones: Are you going to be using them while you travel? Will you be listening to music mainly at home? Or while exercising? We’ve looked at a number of different scenarios and figured out the best headphones or earbuds for you and your lifestyle. In other words, we’ve done the hard work for you. There should be something for everyone and every budget in this list. We’ve lined up a selection of impressive options from top brands.

These are the best headphones for your iPhone in 2023.
