Over the weekend (and some of Monday), Summer Game Fest 2024 took place, with many of the industry’s biggest publishers and studios—as well as tiny teams and solo devs—showing up to debut trailers for new games. It was an exciting time for sure, but also a very busy time for the game industry.
The “one more thing” at the Xbox showcase during Summer Game Fest was a reveal trailer for Gears of War: E-Day, a prequel to the original Gears trilogy starring everyone’s favorite bros, Marcus Fenix and Dominic Santiago. Naturally, Gears fans (myself included) were very excited at the reveal, though it’s not clear…
Gears of War: E-Day is the first entry in the franchise since 2020 and it’s a prequel telling the origins of Marcus and Dom—the main characters seen in the first three Gears games. For folks wanting a resolution to the big cliffhanger ending of Gears 5, it sounds like Xbox will get around to it…one day.
Today, June 9, 2024, Xbox took to the stage to show off a ton of games over the course of its nearly one-and-half-hour-long event. It was a healthy selection of games that featured a wide variety of genres and the return of a certain chainsaw-gun-wielding, bandana-wearing dude who’s ready to take it to the Locusts.
Xbox closed out its big Summer Game Fest Showcase with a teaser trailer for Gears of War: E-Day, a new entry in the long-running cover-shooter franchise. However, this isn’t a sequel to Gears 5. Instead, this is a prequel to Gears of War brings back Marcus’ best bud, Dom, for a new adventure.
