Netflix’s ‘The Archies’ trailer promises a swinging ’60s ‘Riverdale’ remake
From director Zoya Akhtar, the Indian remake takes the Archie Comics back to its heyday.
We haven’t heard much about Netflix film The Archies since June, but finally we’ve got a delightful trailer that makes it look like an absolute blast.
From Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara director Zoya Akhtar, the Indian remake of Riverdale takes the Archie Comics back to its actual heyday: the swinging ’60s. Set in a fictional hill station town called Riverdale, The Archies is a large-scale musical revolving around beloved characters Archie (Agastya Nanda), Betty (Khushi Kapoor), Veronica (Suhana Kha), Jughead (Mihir Ahuja), Reggie (Vedang Raina), Ethel (Aditi Saigal), and Dilton (Yuvraj Menda). Among all the crushes, family drama, and school work they’re dealing with, the group must try and save the local Green Park from destruction by Veronica’s hotel magnate father.
It’s a creatively female-led film, as Akhtar wrote the series with Reema Kagti, with whom the director worked on neo-noir Talaash, and Ayesha Devitre, who co-wrote the screenplay for romantic drama Gehraiyaan. And from the looks of the trailer, we’re in for a time.
How to watch: The Archies is streaming on Netflix Dec. 7.
