Netflix’s ‘Pokémon Concierge’ trailer promises a stop-motion paradise

Forget The White Lotus, no one is more demanding a resort guest than a Pokémon. But at least they’re fluffy and cute and less morally bankrupt.

In Netflix’s first co-production with The Pokémon Company, brand new stop-motion series Pokémon Concierge promises to plunge you into a paradise of those taking a break from being caught. And judging by the trailer, it’s going to be a delightful trip.

Produced by Japan’s Dwarf Studios, the series is set on an island resort for Pokémon, where a new concierge named Haru (voiced by In This Corner of the World‘s Non, dubbed in English by The Boy and the Heron‘s Karen Fukuhara) has arrived. She joins the team to attempt the valiant task of catering hotel needs to individual guests and their Pokémon — no mean feat. With the help of Psyduck, she’s attempting to understand each Pokémon’s requests, from Pikachu to Eevee, Dragonite to Magikarp.

Directed by Iku Ogawa, written by Harumi Doki, with concept art and character design by Tadahiro Uesugi, the series looks like just the holiday we need. I’ll personally be kicking back to that theme song by City Pop legend Mariya Takeuchi all day.

How to watch: Pokémon Concierge is streaming on Netflix from Dec. 28.
