GTA V Is Leaving Game Pass, But These Great Games Will Remain

If you’ve been playing Grand Theft Auto V or GTA Online via Game Pass lately, you might need to pony up and buy a copy to sustain your criminal enterprise. Rockstar’s crime saga is expected to leave Xbox Game Pass in about two weeks.

GTA V is no stranger to Game Pass, having come and gone on the service a few times before. Originally released on PS3 and Xbox 360 all the way back in 2013, GTA V’s impressive single-player mode features the exploits of three different criminals whose fates get intertwined in the sprawling locale of Los Santos. Its online mode has also continued to thrive in the years since it launched.

But if you’re getting evicted from Los Santos with GTA V’s Game Pass departure or you just feel like moving on from Los Santos for a bit, Microsoft’s subscription service has a number of other great open-world games to consider downloading and jumping into.

Both Far Cry 5 and Far Cry 6 are currently available via Game Pass. Of those two, Far Cry 5 was arguably the bigger hit, with its story set in the roaming wilds of Montana that sees you tasked with taking down an out-of-control cult.

The hacker-themed Watch Dogs 2 was a remarkable improvement over its predecessor, featuring an open-world Bay Area in which to wreak technological havoc. Rise of the Tomb Raider also features an open world. The second chapter in the Tomb Raider reboot trilogy that started in 2013, it offers a wide and wild world to uncover, tombs to raid, and towering heights to scale. Or, if you want something with more of a sense of humor, Insomniac’s 2014 Xbox exclusive Sunset Overdrive features over-the-top mutant destroying nonsense that’s never short on meta self-references.

If you have your sights set on exploring the stars, you may want to finally give in and check out Starfield. However, if it’s sci-fi you’re seeking and you’re cool with a slightly more linear experience, one that’s also got a sense of humor, we recommend checking out The Outer Worlds.

Finally, while the scale of their worlds is a bit smaller in scope than GTA, if you want more crime drama, we heartily recommend checking out any of the Yakuza games if you haven’t done so already.

Grand Theft Auto V will undoubtedly be missed as it leaves Game Pass, but there’s more than enough to play in its absence.
