December 4 was Dragon Age Day, BioWare’s officially unofficial celebration of the studio’s fantasy RPG series that has been missing in action for almost an entire decade at this point. But at least, on this most recent Dragon Age Day, BioWare announced Dragon Age: Dreadwolf, the long-anticipated follow-up to 2014’s Inquisition, is finally getting a proper reveal—next year.

News of a full reveal comes from a teaser BioWare released yesterday, which features a few shots of some of Dreadwolf’s vistas, as well as an animation of the map of various places in the universe’s world of Thedas. Several voiceovers hint at the state of each of these territories, referencing series-long conflicts and factions such as the assassin group Antivan Crows and the Grey Wardens, who have been major players in the world since Dragon Age: Origins. None of these voices get a face, but one did sound suspiciously like Nicholas Boulton, who voices the male version of Dragon Age II’s main character Hawke. So it sounds like Dreadwolf might be touching on a handful of plotlines from throughout the series.

The trailer ends with a final tease: Dragon Age: Dreadwolf will get a full unveiling in the summer of 2024. The sequel has been teased via concept art and development footage since the 2018 Game Awards, but we’ve yet to see Dreadwolf anywhere near presentable form since it was first announced. After years of waiting, it sounds like we’re finally getting that.

It seems pretty reasonable to guess Dreadwolf will show up at next year’s Summer Game Fest, which has stepped into E3’s absence as the main vehicle through which new games are announced and new trailers are revealed, but we’ll have to wait and see.

Dragon Age: Dreadwolf is set to conclude the conflict that first began in Dragon Age: Inquisition against party-member-turned-villain Solas, but has apparently been dealing with a lot of development struggles and has undergone some pretty holistic revamps, including removing multiplayer.
